At the centre of the dance oratorio Maria XXX is the adored one, the transfigured one, the worshipped one – Mary, a figure on whom we project our hopes of being redeemed and raised up. To the sound of selected samples of arias by Handel and Scarlatti, Maria XXX plays with the yearning for intimacy, closeness and security. Of Heike Hennig’s production Rituale with the Lautten Compagney, the critic of the Leipziger Volkszeitung wrote that it opened up “new dimensions for music theatre”. The new dance oratorio pursues a similar interactive approach.
