Messiah HWV 56

Oratorio by Georg Friedrich Händel

The famous “Hallelujah Chorus” symbolises of one of the most important works in the history of music, Handel’s oratorio, The Messiah. Handel interwove the austerity of Central German polyphony and the compelling finesse of Italian opera to magnificent effect, thanks to his compositional skills and the incorporation of successful duets and arias from his existing oeuvre. The Messiah was first performed on April 13, 1742, in Dublin. With the famous Tölzer Knabenchor boys’ choir and the Baroque music specialists of l’arte del mondo, we will be hearing an authentic rendering of Handel’s great classic here in Halle.
