The Moritzburg in Halle is one of the most impressive late mediaeval fortresses in Central Germany.
It was built between 1484 and 1503 to be the residence of the archbishops of Magdeburg. The castle
chapel of St. Maria Magdalena is built in a late-Gothic style typical of sacred architecture in
Upper Saxony . Today, this former fortress houses the Stiftung Moritzburg – Kunstmuseum des Landes
Sachsen-Anhalt (State of Saxony-Anhalt Art Museum) and since 2008 has been delighting visitors with
the modern architectural solutions that have been found to incorporate parts of the castle which
until then were unused ruins.
